Mixed Knockout Champions
This year 20 couples entered the club mixed knockout, a greensomes competition. The final was played alongside the final mixed friendly competition on Sunday 6th October.
This saw the current champions and our current captains Andrea Kiernan and Bob Silvester play against Lyn and Tom Sheldon. The match was worthy of a final with excellent golf played and the match was all square after 18 holes.
|
The teams halved the 1st hole, and the 2nd, and the 3rd, and the 4th, and the 5th, finally finishing on the 6th, the 24th hole of play.
Epic doesn’t really describe the battle, and our congratulations go to… Captains Andrea and Bob - Well played all.

Home Nations Semi-Final
A great day at Enmore in the Home Nations Semi-Final.
All juniors played and scored well against experienced, low handicap players and previous winners of this tournament. So to finish fourth overall was unfortunate but considering the scoring format of medal with 4 nett and 1 gross score to count it is still a great achievement, well done to all #maybenextyear.

Scratch Trophy
Congratulations to John Cullen for winning this year’s Scratch Trophy with an excellent 36 hole score of 147 in what were extremely testing conditions that saw the competition become reductions only.
Consideration is being given to a possible change of format next year that would see the competition played in August where one might possibly expect better weather.

Since the game began in the 15th century, there is one thing that has never changed – the ball being the only piece of equipment used on every shot. Despite this, it still gets a raw deal with some golfers viewing it as less important than the clubs used to hit it. So, we decided to take a look back and see how modern golf balls compare to those of yesteryear. |
| Callaway's Chrome Soft golf ball |
|
In the beginning Feathery balls reigned supreme for over 200 years in the early days of golf, but even they are relatively new compared to the original hairy balls (guess what they were stuffed with!). It's hard to imagine what it would be like playing with those balls these days, and even the later-developed Gutty and Haskell balls left golfers with little-to-no room for error.
|
Where we are today 100 years ago the thought of using a state-of-the-art Graphene-infused Dual Soft Core to minimise driver spin/maximise distance would have been unthinkable (and probably impossible) – but that is exactly what features in Callaway's Chrome Soft. Snazzy Truvis styling is something the Chrome Softs offer too for those golfers after something a little bit different. Why not grab a dozen or two and leave the Gutty at home? |
